Arthur Miller was born in Manhattan in 1915 to Jewish parents. His father, Isidore Miller, was an immigrant who manufactured women's clothes. After the business began to fail in the late twenties, the family moved to Brooklyn, which later served as the setting for Death of a Salesman .
