 | | Russian Constructivism: Revolutionary Art and Design | | by Ferdine, May 18, 2008 | | The Russian Revolution occurred in 1917. The workers and peasants seized power from Czar Nicholas II. The new Russia was not a dictatorial regime like Nazi Germany, at least not in the beginning. This was a Communist revolution, a people’s revolution. Ordinary people seized power from the royal family and tried to create a workers’ paradise where wealth would be shared equally. Design was reinterpreted within this new ideology. | | Comments(0) Liked It: 32 |

 | | Art in the Third Reich | | by Ferdine, May 18, 2008 | | The Nazis had a significant impact on art and design. They were completely reactionary and they hated Modernist art because Hitler associated it with Bolshevism and Jewish intellectualism. That created a hostile climate for avant-garde artists, many of whom were Jewish, and of course Nazism was virulently anti-Semitic. A lot of artists and designers were forced to flee from Germany. | | Comments(0) Liked It: 20 |
