Why I Write

We all write for various reasons. I have never considered myself as a writer until I was pondering over the contents of this article. Somehow, I just wanted to know the reasons for my writing expedition. Here are some of the reasons why I write.

  1. Love of Writing

It was only just recently that I developed this love for writing articles. I never knew that I would like it so much until I had opportunities to get them published online. People were reading my articles. It became addictive and soon I was thirsty for more article ideas. I was scrambling for more writing opportunities.
  2. Express my Thoughts and Feelings

I express my thoughts and feelings more when I write for my blogs. My blogs are the avenues for me to say anything I liked. But it did not used to be that way. I was very conservative with my thoughts and conscious what people thought of my writing. But as I continued to blog, I pretended that no one was reading it. I did not even inform friends and family about the existence of my blogs. Then I started to open up as I write more and more. That's when my thoughts and feelings start to flow naturally. It feels great!
  3. Reflection

I love to reflect on my life, the books I read, the shows I watch on TV, etc. Writing is just a great way to have my reflections written down on paper, in my case, published on the internet. It's useful if you want to review some of your thoughts when it's all documented somewhere.
  4. Work the Brain

I believe that we need to constantly make use of our most valuable resource, our brain. Our brain has so much potential and we need to exercise those muscles in the brain to maximize its capabilities. I don't want to have a rusty brain, that's for sure. Writing helps to lubricate my brain cells.
  5. Life-Long Learning

Writing instills the habit of life-long learning in me. I actually love to learn more about various topics of interest. Researching for the contents of my articles helps me to learn more and understand the world from a broader perspective.
  6. Gain Experience

Writing short articles is a wonderful way for me to gain experience for greater challenges to come. I intend to write a book one day. It has always been a life-long dream. Writing helps me gain exposure and practice for cultivating my own personal writing voice and style. It's only through writing that I discover the most comfortable writing style for myself.
  7. Positive Feedback

I recently received a wonderful compliment from a writer friend of mine about one of my articles. He mentioned that he liked the interesting angle I took in writing the piece. It was a great honor because he writes very well and has a great following himself. I really appreciate feedback of any kind about my articles. That's the only way I can tell if people like my writing or the contents displayed in it. Another way I get feedback for my articles would be the number of page views I receive. It's an accurate indication if my article is good or not.
  8. Add Value to Others

I really hope that I add value to others through my writing. I hope other people can learn something from my experiences and my research. It's wonderful to know that my writing creates a positive impact on others.
  9. Free Time

Writing is a great way to spend my free time. It forces me to get off my lazy butt and take action. Sometimes we tend to loaf around and just sleep off the entire afternoon. Not anymore. Now, I look forward to writing my next article and spend every single moment thinking of new ideas for my writing.
  10. Money

Let's not forget that I do write to get paid. If I'm doing something that I enjoy, then the money is an extra which comes in handy.

Let's all reflect on our motivations to write. So, why do you write?
