The Question:
Ok, so I tricked you. My title may have sounded as if I knew all about Literary Agents, but at least I got your attention. The truth is that I don't have a clue about how a person finds that one soul on earth who will agree to read a first time author's book, much less represent it to a publisher.
In case you haven't figured it out, I have just completed my first best selling book. The problem is that no one has read it yet, and I'm beginning to wonder if anyone ever will.
The Issues:
Yes, I already know about, “The query letter.” Personally, the one page submission request was harder and took me longer to write than the book itself. They ask that you keep it short, but summarize the entire book at the same time. They want you to be concise and simultaneously entice them. To this day, I haven't figured out how to do that.
Yes, I found the right web sites. Most of them say, "no unsolicited submissions." I take that to mean that they don't want to hear from me? As far as agents go, all I know is that I can't even get a foot in the door or a click on an icon, so how do I find one?
I know he/she is out there! He or she has to be, so where is my agent?
The Law of Attraction:
Yes, I heard, “The Secret.” That's exactly why I wrote this article. I fully intend that by sending this out into cyber-space, that the universe will hear my command and attract, by law, a literary agent for me... immediately... or ASAP... please.
The Conclusion:
I don't want to leave you empty handed, so I'll give you my only conclusion. Keep writing. As you do, make the intention vividly clear. Do what you have to do to attract that one and only soul on earth who will become the one who represents your book, even if you have to humiliate yourself in the process.
By the way, I'm sending good thoughts out into the universe for you!
