A Tale of Sleep Writing

My best stories, ideas and poetry come when I am sleeping.

You have heard of sleep walking, You have heard of talking in ones sleep, there is even grinding ones teeth, which is quite annoying if your in the same room as the one doing the grinding, lately due to sleeping enhancing medication a new form of sleep disorders have come to surface, yet I am unsure of a new sleep condition unheard of.Quite a new phenomenon in my life, sleep writing. In the past year I wake every morning to a new piece of writing, waiting for me on the night stand. It takes some time to transcribe it being that my handwriting in my waken state is hard enough to read, imagine what it looks like in the sleeping state?

In 2000 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalsia, and arthritis, depression and anxiety coupled with the inability to sleep. Needless to say I am taking many different medications for my illnesses, one in which is a sleep aide that has many simelarties as ambian, all the weirdness in all. I have been on them for around 18 months, the weirdness seems to have been in stages.

The first stage being amnesia of the night before, just after taking the medication, then come the loss of balance, we have all heard of the effects of driving, eating and having sex without knowing it, been there done that. Over the long period on this sleep aide all of those symptoms have subsided, leaving me with this new stage of writing. It is not nessessarly a bad thing since writing is my passion.

Poetry being my primary love as my sleep writing is all poetic. I have been writing poetry for 30 years, in 1991 I had the fortune of being inducted into the International Poetry Hall of Fame, and have won many awards for my love of poetry: Golden Poet of the Year in 1988 - 1990 and 1997, I have earned award Merits of Mention from 1990 , 1991 and 1992. While an award winning poem sits in a formatted frame by the International Library of Poetry and recently has been awarded two consecutive silver cups.

April 2006 I was nominated and won the honor of being National poetry ambassador for 2006. I managed to make one of my dreams come true, after searching for 10 years for a publisher who would actually pay me for my work, Publish America was found from a simple on-line search. I submitted my poetry in November 2005 and began my journey.

From struggling hopeful writer to a full fledge Author, "Prose From Within" was born in a few short months. March 18 was my debut as I set out to become a know author, It was a matter of wrong place wrong time as I booked a signing of my dream in my local grocery store, it was planned to be a coming out too but turned into a flop, the room was above the Zhers shopping store in what they call the community room, I contacted newspapers and news stations in my community, to my dismay it was not enough to make the birth of Prose a big enough deal, although I was features in the local paper and on the local cable channel.

I managed to only sell a few books to family members. I do plan to continue to carry on and trunge the markets to gain the celebrassy I crave, I am only at the beginning of my journey. "Prose from Within" hit shelves in book stores all across Canada and the United States, It can be purchased directly through publishamerica.com under the search, type in the book title.

"It is easier to put pen to paper then to speak out loud. As she goes through every days trials, loves and heartaches and tribulations, rids her of these minute to minute tears. And when allot of my new poetry is written in my sleep its all still pretty amazing" .
