Do not wait for the story to come to you. Remember, it is the early bird that gets the worm.
If you wait for the story to come to you, you may miss vital opportunities and leads.
There are stories all around us just waiting to be told.
Keep a keen eye and a sharp wit.
The most successful reporters know how to separate fact from fiction.
They know how to report on a story without bias or prejudice.
First rule of good reporting. Go into a story without any preset notions.
If you go in with preset notions you will only find they are subject to change
My advice is, go in with an open mind.
Any good reporter knows that the key to reporting is,
know your subject. Get in the mind of your subject.
Make no assumptions, all cards should be on the table.
Build a working dialogue with your subject.
Interview or research them by any means necessary, (within bounds of the law and respectability,)
I do not suggest invading the privacy of others for the sake of a story.
Invading the privacy of others is the non-respectable way of half-baked tabloids and amateurs.
If you are serious about reporting, you will do it with class and honor.
