Sing Sing

Review of a piano bar in Pittsburgh

Sing Sing, which is owned by Rock Bottom, has a reputation of being Pittsburgh's only piano bar. It features Karl Bailey and Danny McElroy. The two play with a guest t "duel" with. Sing Sing is open Wednesday through Saturday from 6 pm until 2 am. The pianos don't start until about 8 o'clock. There are different cover charges based on the nights you go. Wednesdays are ladies night and the cover is three or four dollars. Thursdays are college night, you get in free with a college id. Friday and Saturdays the cover is six dollars. You must be over 21 to get in and your hand gets stamped after you get in.

The drinks and food are decently priced. The amount of food you get for your money is great. One downfall is if you want your drink at that moment you need to go get it yourself. There is not enough wait staff for the amount of customers. Also every so often, about half hour to an hour, the guys pull all the waitresses on stage with them for a dance or song. Leaving customers without a waitress until they are finished.

They play most songs by request, but they also play some songs they change. For example, Karl has his own version of "I Will Survive" that looks from a man's view instead of a woman's view. Each gender paid to get them to play whatever version they want to hear. They have done the same thing for college fight songs. The downfall is they play the requests when people give them more then 20 dollars. If they don't play your song, you lose your money. The piano players get at least 200 dollar each in one night.

They have flashlights they use to shine on certain people in the audience, generally those close to the stage, so they can harass them for one reason or another. Also if there is a birthday or something that requires a person to get on stage, the piano players will give them a bumper sticker, for the women they'll place it wherever the girl wants them to put a sticker.

Their website is very helpful. It gives a background of the establishment and the players. It gives you times, and prices as well as a look at the menu. You can reserve seats or even the place for a party. The website also gives you directions from various places in the city. It's easy to navigate and find what you are looking for.

Sing Sing is a great place to go to celebrate a birthday or to go to have some fun. You can just sit back and laugh at their jokes and sing along with their songs. Who knows you could even met someone new sitting next to you or around you. So stand up and sing and visit Sing Sing to view Pittsburgh's only dueling piano bar.
