Review of the Georgia Sea Turtle Museum in Jekyll Island, GA.
If you ever find yourself near Jekyll Island in Georgia, I highly recommend a visit to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. The Center provides a place where anyone, regardless of age, can gain a better understanding of sea turtles. With their hands-on exhibit, and the wonderful presentations in the hospital, it is guaranteed to be a memorable experience for every member of the family.
Upon entering the exhibit, you will assume the role of a sea turtle. Each station covers a different stage of life, with models, videos, and hands-on activities. Each guest is given a “passport” to document your life as a turtle. Where you hatched, what you ate, and how big you were, are just some of the many details of your life that will be different for each guest, enabling you to return for another visit and have another unique experience.
In the hospital section, guests have the opportunity to see the turtles close up. Each tank is labeled with the name of the turtle and details about its age, admittance date, injuries, and expected release. Feeding times are posted, and here guests are treated to a presentation about the turtles, and volunteers are available to answer any question you may have.
The Center’s child-friendly exhibits, and knowledgeable staff, make it a favorite attraction for the visitors of Jekyll Island. So, the next time you’re in the area, stop by the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. You’ll be glad you did.
