Digital Television Transition and Coupon Program

On Feb.17, 2009, TV as we know it will go digital. If you intend to keep your analog be sure to get your 40 dollar coupons to convert from analog to digital.

All full power TV stations in the U.S. will stop broadcasting in analog at midnight February 17, and switch to digital broadcasting. It will provide clear pictures and more programming options, besides freeing up airwaves for use by emergency responders.

Congress has created the TV conversion box for all households who wish to keep their analog TV sets after the switch. This program allows U.S. households to obtain up to two coupons, each worth 40 dollars that can be applied toward the cost of two converter boxes. A TV connected to cable, satellite, or other pay T.V. services does not require a converter box.

You have several options:

  1. Purchase a TV with a digital tuner.
  2. Connect to a cable, satellite, or other pay service.
  3. Keep your existing analog TV and purchase a TV converter box. The converter box plugs into your TV and will keep it working after the switch.

The coupons have an expiration date-90 days after they are mailed-and will not be reissued.

For more information go to N4A or DTV.

Something to make you smile:

A salesman walked up to the gate and called out to a little boy sitting on the porch next to a dog, “Does your dog bite?” The boy called back, “No, my dog doesn’t bite.” So, the salesman opened the gate and walked into the yard. The dog ran at the salesman and ripped out the seat of his pants. The salesman yelled to the boy, “I thought you said your dog doesn’t bite.” The boy said.” That’s not my dog.”

Loved the joke, Ruby. In England we are supposed to go completely digital by 2012. Most areas however have already gone digital and we were digital in the last house we lived in. We moved to Eastbourne last year and here we will be the last to go digital so none of our digital TVs or recorders work. It is such a nuisance. I have had to go onto Sky. Grumble, grumble!

    Take care

    Christine

Thank you all for your interest and your comments. Nobody mentioned the mispelling in my joke. You are too kind but I noticed it when I checked and have a fix on it. Thank you all for your support and encouragement. You are the best.

Interesting, this doesn’t apply to me but I am sure there are others out there that will benefit from good advise, and this is just that.
