First of all, there is nothing harder that being a teen. Your life is full of decisions and each right or wrong one could decide the rest of your life. There is peer pressure all around you and you find yourself doing unthinkable things just to fit in. It's hard road to adulthood. Depression and have ADHD does not help it in any way.
Depression hurts teen's everyday. It comes into their lives and destructs them and makes them feel unworthy and they feel as though their live can never be anything more then an abominable pit they are lying in at the moment. They feed odd negativity and they gain new ways to hurt themselves and oddly enough it makes them feel better also.
Teens who have depression and who are suicidal are mostly referred to what is called “EMO” these days. “Goth” is referred to for those who dress in dark clothes. While Emo shows a whole new level of depression on teens. They will cut themselves, usually with a razor blade to make themselves feel better. They rarely every cut so deep that they could die from loss of blood, but they do however cut enough to leave a scar. For a depressed teen, it's a way of punishing themselves, but they also get a sort of release from the pain.
However, those who have ADHD are more prone to depression. ADHD and depression are mixed together causing one emotional teenager who is constantly confused. Usually the kind of depression that comes with ADHD is common to treat fairly quickly. However, on a rare basis depression that comes from ADHD can lead to other mental disorders that can be more time based. Meaning they will take longer to treat or may even have to be treated for the rest of their lives.
These mental illnesses are bi-polar disorder which affects 2 million Americans and brings on mood changes that are so extreme and so fast it could literally make your head spin.
Bulimia is another disorder that could be caused by depression. Those who think of themselves as fat and who are depressed about it become obsessed about and it can lead to this eating disorder or one far worse, Anorexia.
There are many other mental disorders that I did not name that your children can end up having. It is a hard life for teens; it is nothing like the time you grew up in. Things are different. Teens are different, peer pressure got harder and the need to fit in got a little stronger.
Having ADHD and depression can be one of the hardest things your teenager will face. Helping them through it can be hard. But there are ways to help them either through therapy or medicine.
