Welcome to Mankind's New Home in Space

What happens if the earth becomes inhabitable? There are plans to set up a colony for us in space.

WELCOME TO MANKIND'S NEW HOME IN SPACE.

WHERE

Lifeboat Foundation has started to design a habitat in space for humans, in the event that earth is destroyed. The design below is of a colony which will be all self-sustaining.

WHAT'S IT LIKE INSIDE?

Well, the obvious question is what will keep our feet on the ground since there is no gravity there. The plan is to have a donut-shaped object rotate, and use it centrifugal force as artificial gravity.

HOW TO GET THERE

Rocket planes like this one are deemed safe, comfortable, ultra fast and relatively inexpensive.

THE COMPOUND

Of course one cannot fly unless you first go to the airport. Already there are plans to build Ras Al Khaimah Spaceport in the United Arab Emirates, and the Singapore Spaceport in… yes…Singapore.

ELEVATOR OR STAIRS?

An Elevator from the earth into Space? There are talks of this, but it'll probably not happen because of the obvious potential disaster if one of the cables should suddenly snap.

(All pictures with the express permission of the Lifeboat Foundation).

nice article Anne,THAT'S WONDERFUL,
I have also read an article 3 years ago about a design/plan on how we can inhabit planet mars just in case the earth become overpopulated.

Questions...questions...questions...how many people could live in something like this? I can't imagine it. Great article Anne but I'd have to pass.

...great piece, fascinating to
imagine, but I for one, am so glad
I am not 10 years old. The future is
going to be quite interesting, for those
with the means to survive. Beautiful
pictures. Oh, one question I had was,
how will we, or they breathe?

actually the space elevator is being taken in to high consideration. it's more likely to be built than you think...
