The Use of Wind Energy

Wind energy is one of the most important ways for New York to eliminate their addiction to the use of fossil fuels as an everyday energy source.

Wind energy is one of the most important ways for New York to eliminate their addiction to the use of fossil fuels as an everyday energy source. This “new” found way of generating energy is not new at all. As a matter of fact, use of wind energy as well as solar energy, has been dated back to 5000 B.C. Wind energy is a renewable resource that is non-pollutionary and it does not require any fossil fuel burning or use of batteries. Air is the only power.

The use of wind turbines is important to the development of an environmentally friendly Country. Since wind energy does not require a constant need of nonrenewable resources, it will help America financially as well. By setting up more areas for wind turbines, the amount of toxins released by fossil fuel burning will decrease which will alternatively lead to a cleaner environment. Use of these wind turbines in New York would be a great idea; however, what would we do for the places with little amounts of space and wind?

Based on the information that I gained from the Quick Facts About Wind Energy passage, “wind resources are characterized by wind power density classes ranging from1 (lowest) to class 7 (highest”. On the New York Annual Average Wind Power Chart, a majority of this state received a rating of 2 which is obviously considered low, seeing that the lowest possible score is a1. While most of the secluded country like areas of New York State received 4's and 5's. Busy cities such as New York City received a 1. This is a problem because these cities are the largest causes of pollution.

Although basically everyone knows that fossil fuels are renewable and may someday become depleted, many do not realize the importance of finding an alternative fuel source that is everlasting. A means of generating a non-pollutionary source of energy is critical to the longevity of the earth. Wind energy isn't the only step towards making a cleaner earth. Methods such as solar energy, water energy (reverse hydrolysis), and Hydrogen energy can also be used in areas that do not have a great amount of wind. These three other sources are found everywhere and can also be used anywhere also.

Many people do not believe that their everyday activities may contribute to the pollution of the earth. It is a known fact that only 20% of the fuel put in our cars is used while the 80% is released in the form of Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Sulfur Dioxide, and other various harmful compounds. If we continue release of harmful emissions such as these, global destruction may occur. In order to help reduce the amount of toxins, vehicles known as hybrid cars come with a battery pack that increases the MPG (Miles per Gallon) of a car.

Seeing how we all inhabit this earth, it is our duty to keep it clean by using sources such as wind energy. If we continue to develop clean sources of energy, we can reverse the negative impact that human fossil fuel burning has created.
