Doritos: The Quest Mystery Flavor Chip

Doritos has added a new snack chip with a mystery flavor and packaged in a curious black and green bag. The company claims that “Guessing The Flavor Is Just The Beginning” and that is precisely the truth.

The taste a bit like….

Lemon Pie. That was my initial impression seconds after popping the first chip into my mouth. The flavor is sweet and lightly seasoned with just a hint of lemon like the kind of lemon that would be used in baking a pie. Oddly, the flavor is quite addicting.

”Doritos has done it again, creating a chip that you can't eat just one," says Nelson Doyle.

The mystery chip marketing campaign is simply brilliant. Although, I first cringed at the thought of purchasing a bag of the Doritos “The Quest” Mystery Flavor Snack Chip, because who's to say - it could have been “Blue Cheese Vinegar Ranch” flavored and that sounds pretty gross to me. My curiosity got the best of me and I bought a bag, so to satisfy the curiosity.

If you have the opportunity to try one of these new mystery flavored Doritos chips, then I would be very interested in knowing what flavor you believe the Doritos chip is.

They all sound good to me but I have to limit mine.

My problem with Doritos is that they are too salty. I am dealing with a kidney problem.

They tasted like a lemon-creme sandwich cookie to me. Very lemon-ey and cremey.

key lime pie, my quess and steves too!!

As a chef I am POSITIVE it\'s key lime pie. But I absolutely hated it. I felt it was another culinary abortion on behalf of the frito lay company. Last year was the forgettable \"white castle burger\" flavor. Was absolutely terrible.

It's worse...the flavor is Mountain Dew!

That is the flavor of the new mystery Doritos. I was led to believe the chips tasted like Mojito drinks, but unfortunately I was wrong.

My guess was either Key lime pie or lemon pie when I tasted them for the first and last time. More people needs to read a review and comments like this one, before going off and wasting their money on the snack. Just get something else instead of Mystery Chips.

The new flavor is Mountain Dew Ummm i'm speechless

I just found this blog entry by searching for \\\"doritos quest lemon meringue\\\" --- exactly what it tasted like to me.

And I have to disagree about the marketing. The reason I bought the chips was because I was challenged to decide what it tasted like. Damn I love puzzles, but these chips are kinda gross in my opinion.

They really are Mountain Dew flavored! I went to the website and unlocked the first puzzle so I know that it's correct. I like Mountain Dew(the drink) but HATE these chips, they taste more like Gatoraide to me....bad Gatoraide. Don't waste your money!

Dude Mountain Dew? lol i thought they tasted like Furit Loops...

Don't know what they are but I'm addicted! I think it's a lime flavor versus a lemon flavor, but not sure what else. Oddly enough the ingredient list does not give any hints...

I thought they tasted exactly like lemon pie, and was totally grossed out by the taste. I'm not knocking those who like it, but for me, it was one of the worst snack foods I've ever tasted.

I agree, this chip tasted exactly like lemon pie. Just an awful tasting chip. I had to eat 3 chips to just to make sure that it wasn't just a bad chip that got slipped into the bag. Nope, it was the flavor of the chips. Nasty stuff.
#21 by Anne Lions, Jun 24, 2008
The first chip I ate tasted VERY nasty. By the third chip, it was \'meh\'. By the time I finished off the bag, they were not HORRIBLE, but they certainly aren\'t something I\'d buy EVER again. I can\'t believe they thought Mountain Dew would be a good flavor. I\'d be interested to know how many people actually like the taste, vs. how many people would run screaming if offered another one.

1/3 like? 1/4? 1/8th? Can\'t be as many people liking it as any of their more normal flavors.

this chip is DISGUSTING! omg lemon chips....bad bad choice

I'm kinda surprised so many dislike it....it is definitely fruity, and very much citrus too. I guess that's kid of weird for a chip, but, damn!! I love this flavor. I tried out of pure curiosity. I like Doritos flavors, but they often are lacking in strength (you know, the chips you get in the bag with almost NO flavor on it). However this flavor was stong all the way. I bet they made these stronger to add to the gimmick. I like them so much I started buying 2 bags at a time (the small bags!!) and finishing them off right away, something I don't normally do with chips. Problem is, only 1 store in my area carries them and they seem to be out for good. What gives? Are they going to come out with a new official flavor?

To all those who don't like them, PLEASE PLEASE lie and say you love them, just for me so if it's a popularity contest, Doritos will put them into full time production. I guarantee you won't have to eat them, and when a flavor comes out that you like, I'll lie for you!!
