American Idol Tryouts Tips and Rules

Tips and rules for trying out for American Idol. Includes a tip from American Idol taylor Hicks.

Are you planning to audition for a season of American Idol? If so then you need to know the American Idol Tryout Tips and Rules. First, of the American Idol Tryout Tips and Rules is to make sure that you read and memorize the audition information given on idolonfox.com . Please be sure to read the FAQ notes because in this section is important information such as letting you know that not everyone in line may get a chance to audition. Being next in line doesn’t necessarily mean you will get to audition. If time starts to run short the staff personnel might just pick people out of line who look like the fit the part of an American Idol. I know this doesn’t seem fair just look at this years winner, Taylor Hicks, they, well Simon anyway didn’t think he looked the part but he took America by storm. However, looking the part may be what it takes to get you into the auditions.

Following these American Idol Tryout Tips and Rules will be of great help to you. If you want to be the next Taylor Hicks or Carrie Underwood make sure to put your best foot forward by first off following the rules. Each individual tryout venue as pre determined times that those wanting to audition can show up. Also keep in mind that some places may not let you get in line before 6am.

Bring a something with you to occupy your time such as, a book, and a music headset and maybe a few drinks and snacks because you could be in for a long wait.

You have to be a legal U.S Citizen or a permanent U.S resident. You also have to be between the ages of 16 and 29. Make sure to bring 2 forms of I.D with you, at least one form must be a photo I.D. If you are under 18 you need to have a parent or legal guardian with you.

Bring some cash with you as it is very likely food will be sold to those waiting in line for auditions.

Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks has stated some advice he had for prospective American Idols. He said “You really need to sell the song and get into the lyrics. The song that you choose, you really have to stick with and rehearse it well.”

My advice is to pick out a song you know well and practice it like crazy before you get to the auditions. Then when you get in front of the judges sing the best that you can. Capture the judge’s attention; make sure they want to hear you sing again.

If you want to the next Taylor Hicks or Carrie Underwood the first step is getting the judges to pass you on to the next audition each time they hear you. Make the judges know you can sing and that you will be able to grab the attention of the viewers in the audience and at home. Getting America to love you when it is there turn to decide is another subject altogether. For now you want to make it past the American Idol Tryouts by getting the judges attention. Good Luck!

i donot think that it is fair that the age limit is 29 there are other people whom are interested in being an american idol also , donot set age limits that isnt fair.

Nice advise, and with this, I hope to become the next American Idol, but i have to wait right now cause I'm not old enough, but I can sing, and I know I could out sing most of the contestants at my age right now.

Great advise! i believe confidence is key, but being cocky will for sure decrease voting counts. So be confident but humble.I can't stand someone who thinks they can't be beat. REMEMBER: every dog has its day!

By some Godly miracle, are the IDOL producers going to raise the age limit? People like me should be given the opportunity to perform in a prestigious event, instead of being thrown into a circus act like "America's Got Talent." Will be crossing my fingers and praying hard that raising the age should be a major discussion. Thanks.

I dont feel that American Idol should have ANY age limits-Millions of people over the age of 29 are GREAT singers and have enormous talent! To discriminate aginst them isnt right. (and they ARE the work force, by the way.. viewing your show).I think its great that kids & young adults have an opportunity through American Idol-but please be fair and open those same opportunities to everyone.

Its just a pure shame that there is an age limit for this competition. Some of the voices I have heard on the 30-somethings could blow ANY CURRENT IDOL away!!!! I myself am 33 and would love the opportunity to audition but, the age limit won\'t let me. I could have buried a few of them myself vocally. With the exception of Kelly. She will always be the TRUE American Idol. Shame on you Simon for showing people all over the US that age matters. You have ushered in another era of ageism. Congratulations! LOSER!

Do you have to be 16 at the time of audition? What if you are 16 by the time the next season starts but not yet 16 at the audion?
#21 by Challice, Mar 26, 2008
Im fifteen and turn 16 in november but i think the auditions might be before that...Do you have to be 16 the day you tryout?
How do I find out?

I would try out for American Idol because I watched Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus Best Of Both Worlds.
#23 by Sara, Apr 10, 2008
I would try out for American Idol if it wasn\'t for the age limit in a heart beat! Unfortunately, I will be 42 in August. Some of us who are over 29 can actually sing. Its not right or fair to discriminate against us just because we are older. Where is the online no age limit petition. I would love to sign it.

i think that 12 year old girls should be aloud to try out for american idol and if they make it then that proves that they belong there and thats how they will start there life.
#26 by Beyonce , May 5, 2008
I think if u can\'t sing why would you go up there in the firstplace! If you can\'t sing and you know it why waste your money your time and gas? save room for people who can sing! If you don\'t have the look swagg or voice stay at home!and the age limit is fair because if you over 28 you shouldn\'t be singing anyways you too damn old!
#27 by anonymous, May 5, 2008
I am thirteen years old and I have been singing since I was 5. my music teacher in school tells me that my voice is the best in the school. my school goes to 12th grade and I am in seventh. I wish they had a Young American Idol or something! three years is a long time to wait!

I'm 15, and turning 16 September 8th. I dont know when the auditions are going to be. I have a wonderful voice currently, and it's keeps on improving. But if anyone can tell me when the season 8 auditions will be, that would be appreciated. I live in Indiana so any place near there would be appreciated. Remember my name, cause when I audition, I know I will be going to Hollywood. So post a audition site close to indiana. and i dont even know if it will be before my 16th birthday. So please remember my name cause i know ill be goin to hollywood!

does anyone know when the season 8th try outs start an were?
#32 by Katelyn, Jun 1, 2008
My sister Nicole shoulld sing Leave (Get Out) by Jojo on American
Idol because she knows the song very well.
#33 by Tat, Jun 8, 2008
The Idol producers are looking for someone they can promote and make money off of for a while. That's why there's the upper age limit. And I believe the lower is because it is a lot harder to negotiate contracts and work terms when kids (under 16) are involved. The show isn't meant to discriminate against older people, or younger, but they are just trying to make as much money as possible the easiest way, for the longest time.

For bands, try battle of the bands or a different similar competition. AI is for solo singers.

Hello my name is brittney and i am 12 years old and i believe that 12 years olds should have the oppertunity to sing because just because were kids does'nt mean we dont actually have a very great voice ddodwn deep inside and i say if you could just give a 12 year old or even a 14 and 15 and 16 year old a chance i think that will make us very proud and i myself have sanged in front of lots of people and they say im made to be the pro of all singers but if you really give me this oppertunity i promise i would show and give you all i got.
