Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks has stated some advice he had for prospective American Idols. He said “You really need to sell the song and get into the lyrics. The song that you choose, you really have to stick with and rehearse it well.”
My advice is to pick out a song you know well and practice it like crazy before you get to the auditions. Then when you get in front of the judges sing the best that you can. Capture the judge’s attention; make sure they want to hear you sing again.

Make the judges know you can sing and that you will be able to grab the attention of the viewers in the audience and at home.
