The new iPhone 3G is a popular accessory to say the least. The retail price will run about $300 to get the data package with AT&T. The first week the phone came out people were waiting in long lines to be the first. Unfortunately, this created a craze that could not be satisfied. The iPhone hype has created a trend of people using the phones to connect with the world. Personally, I believe that the new phone is a good buy, but it has some issues to work out.
First, the billing problems were massive according to a store manager in Miami. The stores had run out of phones during the first days, and over a million were sold. People became disappointed when they had to order their new phones and use a temporary one in the meantime. It sounds like pre-ordering was the best option to avoid long lines, and other inconvenience. Second, the battery was great for phone only. For instance, there is a problem when the user tries to use the Internet or any other feature. The battery dies much faster once other programs are used. Carrying the phone charger is a good idea, but you must remember that the cord is very short. The plus side is that it is also a USB drive to upload photos and video. The third inconvenience is being forced to only use AT&T as the provider. This could mean some disconnect charges to consider before switching to another provider to get the special iPhone. Also, this could mean loosing some billing benefits from the former company.
All in all, the iPhone could enhance your ability to work mobile and stay better connected with the job. Surfing the Internet is usually quick and downloading attachments are much easier than with the Blackberry. The 3G does not have a traditional key board pad like the Blackberry, so you will have to adjust to that too. Therefore, it is a must have for the tech savvy, but for the average cell phone user it could be an expensive toy waste.
