Are you angry because the United States has iPods for $50 cheaper than your own country, but you can't order from the US Apple Store as they only ship within the US? Are you miserable because Hong Kong sells iPods for almost $100 cheaper than neighbouring China? Who wouldn't be! If you're looking to go on a shopping trip, here's where to hit if you want the cheapest iPods. The countries I looked at were:
- USA 262 incl tax
- Canada 262
- United Kingdom 314
- Hong Kong 243
- Germany 360
- Singapore 285
- South Korea 256
- China 324
- Japan 288
- Australia 305
I entered in the values from the Apple Store into Google in the store's local currency and converted it into US dollars. The results are shown below (note: the prices shown may not be current. They are for the 80 GB iPod Classic purchased in May 2008 from the country's respective Apple Online Store). Remember that I did not check every country in the world - there may be some developing countries with cheaper iPods.
- Hong Kong ($243) - No surprises here, as the factory is located near Hong Kong Island
- South Korea ($256)
- United States - if you factor in an average of 5% sales tax it comes to $262
- Canada ($262)
- Singapore ($285)
- Japan ($288)
- Australia ($305)
- United Kingdom ($314)
- China ($324) - surprising, considering the factory is located in China
- Germany ($360) - however, wages are higher in the Eurozone
