Nokia 6500 Slide Phone

The pros and cons of the new Nokia 6500 slide phone.

After using the Series 60 based Nokia N-72 for a while, the Nokia 6500 seemed to be a little disappointing in the beginning. But soon, I realized that though this phone uses a Series 40 operating system, it's a great phone. Bundled with several features and great looks, it turned out to be one of the best 3G phones I've used till date.

Looks

The first thing you'll notice about this phone is its looks. Entirely made of stainless steel, and black plastic on the top and the bottom, the Nokia 6500 slider scores 10/10 on looks.

Camera

This phone has a 3.2 Megapixel Autofocus camera. It uses a Carl Zeiss lens and offers an 8X zoom. Of course, the results have to be superb. And they are. It also has a dedicated capture key. The AutoFocus feature is simply awesome. I clicked a picture of an eye-drops bottle, and I could actually see all the details printed on the bottle sticker. That was simply great.

The phone also offers video recording. The maximum quality is 640 X 480 VGA recording. The recording is around 15 fps, which is pretty good.

The camera has a Dual LED flash light, which allows you to get a perfect picture in low light conditions. But this phone lacks the torch feature.

This phone also has a front camera for video calling. But it cannot be used as regular camera for taking pictures.

Operating System and Display

This phone uses a 3rd edition S40 user interface. It has a 2.2 inch, 16 million colors LCD screen. The screen resolution is 240 X 320, which helps in displaying crystal clear images. It also has a ambient light sensor.

Music Player

I found the music player quite similar to the N72 music player. The music files can be sorted as following: All songs, Play lists, Artists, Albums, Genres, and Videos.

Also, the features like Equalizer and Stereo Widening are provided. The speaker quality is good, though at higher volumes, the sound clarity is lost.

Other Features

  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • USB connectivity
  • Expandable memory up to 4 GB( Micro SD card )
  • 3G
  • 30 MB internal memory
  • Themes support, Active standby, Sleep mode, Power Save mode
  • Dedicated Volume buttons, dedicated camera capture key
  • TV-out capability (TV connectivity cable supplied with the phone)
  • 2.5 mm TV, headset connector
  • EDGE, GPRS, CSD
  • Visual Radio
  • Flight Mode
  • Video Ringtones
  • Support for JVA applications

With all these features, the Nokia 6500 slider phone has proved to be a good phone…
