Maintaining Battery Health

Most of the devices today, be it your mobile phones, laptops, iPod, etc. have a battery installed in them, which allows the device to be used when direct AC power is not available.

These batteries can power up the device depending upon the usage. Usually after a few months, we notice that the charge holding capacity of the battery reduces. It means that after some time, the battery becomes incapable of holding that amount of charge, which it used to hold in the beginning. To replenish the battery's capacity, we should do the following, at least once a month.

  1. Power on the device.

  2. Use it until the battery gets discharged completely.

  3. To ensure that the battery gets completely discharged, try powering it on.

  4. When the device refuses to power on due to an empty battery, leave it for some time, at least for a few hours.

  5. Now, connect the device to the charging source. Once the battery gets completely charged, leave it connected to the charging source for another one hour.

  6. Now remove the device from the charging source, and power on the device.

This procedure will ensure a good charge holding capacity of the battery for a long time. Repeat this procedure at least once a month.

Also, when the battery is not required for a few days, discharge it completely, and then store it in a cool place. This ensures a good health of the battery.
