Learning About MP3 Players

I am totally at a lost when it comes to new technology gadgets. As soon as I learn one new thing, the market throws out a dozen more new names. Cell phones are the only gadget that I am comfortable with, for now. If you talk to me about iPod, MP3, Podcast, or Pandora, you will see my “duh...” face. What the heck are they? Are they some types of secret codes or are they new slang words?

So I set forth a quest to learn about MP3 player. What is MP3? Military Police Three! No, MP3 is a music player that plays audio files, which has been compressed to a smaller size called MP3. Think of it as your favorite music CD in ancient time, and songs on that CD converted into MP3 format.

Which Ones to Buy?

How much money do you want to spend, and how many gigabytes do you need? The market offers a wide range of different prices, types of storage space, brand names, and compatible makers. Here are three MP3 players that worth considering:

  • Creative Zen V: This comes packed with competitive features such as voice recorder, FM radio, video, and photo playback. It has one gigabyte for $90.00, which holds up to 250 to 500 songs. The pluses are: easy to use, and had great reviews.
  • Samsung T9: Cost $110.00 for 2 gigabytes. It packs with features such as photo viewing, gaming capabilities, and video playback. The pluses are: great sound, long battery life, and good reviews.
  • Apple's iPod Nano: This offers 2 gigabytes, holds up to 500 songs, and scored top in durability and performances. The price is $149.00 with built in photo viewing. If you want to listen to FM radio, or recording features, then you will have to purchase separate accessories. The pluses are: thin, great sound quality, and songs shuffle.

How to Turn Regular CD Songs into MP3?

Computers are very smart now a day. As soon as you insert a CD into it, Window Media Player pops up. Then the list of the songs appears on screen with a check mark for each song. Uncheck the title that you don't want, and hit the icon that says “Rip Music” or “Import CD”. Click it and you are done.

For iPod users, you will need iTunes, which you can find at apple.com/itunes. When insert CD into your computer, iTunes will pop up.

For Mac users, iTunes is on the menu bar.

How to Transfer MP3 Files to Player?

Now that the songs are stored in the computer, plug in your player, and your Window Media Player program will launch and automatically transfer the music.

Now that I have conquered this new gadget and I learned how to transfer music to it; I think it is such a great technology to have. Not only I don't have to carry a big bulgy cassette player, I also get a great library of songs in my pocket to listen to while go on with my daily life.
