The latest iPod from Apple is the iPod touch. I can say that this device is great, cause I own one. The iPod touch comes with several new features. Priced at $ 399, it's a costly affair, but it's worth it.
Resolution
The screen offers a high resolution of 320*480, which makes the display crystal clear.
Scratch-Proof Screen
It uses the touch screen interface, which is different from most of the touch screen devices present today. The screen is quite hard, and NOT like soft laminations which most of the devices have. The touch is fun to use. The screen is said to be scratch resistant, though I haven't tried any of scratching tests on my iPod yet….!! The back side of the ipod, is of course, NOT scratch proof.
Looks
The interface is quite user-friendly. It has only two buttons on it's body the Home button, and the on/off button. This gives this ipod a great look.
Cover Flow
When browsing through the music collection, rotating the ipod to landscape form, automatically brings up the cover flow feature. Various albums with their album art are shown, which can be browsed through by simply touching and dragging.
Wi-Fi
It's the first iPod to have a built in wi-fi. With the wi-fi on, you can surf the internet as you do on the computer. The built in browser “safari”, works well. You can also open new windows. Support for javascripts is also available. Also, with the iTunes application on the iPod, you can download songs, podcasts directly to your iPod.
Videos
Formats like mp4, m4a , etc can be played on this iPod. The video playback is smooth.
Memory
This iPod is available in different memory sizes of 8 GB(the one I own), 16 GB, and 32GB.
Problems With The Apple iPod Touch
No 3rd party applications can be installed. For doing so, jailbreaking is required. Also the support for themes is not available.
The second problem is that it is the only iPod which cannot be used for STORAGE purposes. It cannot be used as a USB MASS STORAGE device. Windows does not detect it as a storage device. It detects it as a camera! Only iTunes can access this iPod.
