I have been called a gadget hound. I don't think I really represent the description very well, though I will admit that's mainly for reasons of budgetary limitation. But I am inclined that way, finances permitting.
As of last summer, I had chugged through four cell phones in as many years. None were smart or berry-type things. I don't need email or the Internet with me at all times. Plus, I like my gadgets small. But the joyful toyfulness that the iPhone seemed to be did give me pause. Living in Canada has meant that pause can be as long as you like, as Canada is one of the iPhoneless nations. So during my long pause I've been able to get from the initial lure of the gear all the way over to the pragmatism of "I have a perfectly good phone already" and "holy price tag Batman".
But now it's actually coming here. The pause is concluding. It's even coming on my carrier, Rogers. The return of the toyful temptation. So I've been focussing on the predictions of Rogers haters that data rates will make the device pointless, and on those of the Apple haters, that we will be shipped first generation phones with their classic crapple battery life.
Stay tuned for updates on this, what will surely be my greatest battle against gratuitous gadgetry, for 08 at least.
