It has been a period of disappointment for science. The outer space orbiting Hubble Telescope shutdown after billions of dollars spent in renovation. Now, the law of nature defying Wonder Spot is being prepared to be paved over to make an access roadway. The interesting difference between the two is the Wonder Spot brought in positive dollars and was low maintenance. The money spent on the Hubble could have wiped out hunger in our country and many third world nations. It is interesting that both would go by the wayside nearly at the same time.
I am not going to argue the benefits of the Hubble pro or con. Being inquisitive about both the world and the universe that we live in I could probably give a good schizophrenic dissertation on the subject. My greatest joy of the device was getting a clearer perspective of our exterior environment. Galaxies and space bound events we could only theorize about were projected back to earth. In essence, we proved ourselves to be only a speck of dust in the overall picture of the universe. My biggest disappointment was that this mega expensive looking glass never gave us a peeping tom's view of any extraterrestrial neighbors. It did make us more conscious that we may be some other world's aliens.
The Wonder Spot is one of about 21 known earthbound anomalies in this country alone. Its presence displays sights and effects that defy the laws of nature. Keep in mind this count precludes people. Apparently, these spots exhibit a total defiling of the laws of physics. People seem to shrink or fall uphill or cannot fall over no matter how hard the try. Some have called the Wonder Spot an optical illusion. Others just give in and marvel at the experience. The fact is this place exists in spite of nature and man. Its downfall is no one had the creativity to plan a theme park around it. Despite its low upkeep and positive generated dollars its tourism is not a strong point for the its Lake Delton, Wisconsin area. It has declined into a tourism afterthought. This is why no one gave it any second thought of being having the Wonder Spot paved over.
What I find dubious is the disparity of the care between the Hubble Telescope and the Wonder Spot. Untold billions were spent constructing, launching, and upkeep of the off world telescope. As the scientific wonder was finally left to shutdown and become, just another piece of manmade space born garbage the more monetarily positive Wonder Spot was sold off for a faction of the cost of one Hubble repair. The insult is the road in which will result will probably make a couple of water amusement parks more accessible.
Will there ever be a "Save The Hubble" campaign or a "Wonder Spot Stand" protest? Unfortunately, the way we are, the former will probably garner more backing than the latter. The Hubble is a higher profile (no pun intended) matter in peoples minds. The Wonder Spot is what it is, an afterthought. The Hubble leaves behind a legacy of having answered questions and unraveling mysteries. In contrast, the Wonder Spot will be remembered more in form of folklore surrounded by unanswered questions shrouded in mystery.
