How to Use a Scarf

There's more than one way to use a scarf. Learn more here!

Hi you all,

I recently returned from a trip to Europe and noticed that all of the women were wearing these large cashmere-like scarves around their necks. I've looked around for a scarf that's similar to the one's I saw, and have even posted this question another scarf-related web site: What was it that I saw and where can I find one?

Thank you!

Julie

Hi Julie,

Thank you for your email. It sounds like you're looking for a pashmina, otherwise known as a pashmina shawl. The pashmina shawls are large scarf-like accessories resembling a small shawl and are most frequently crafted from silk or cashmere.

If you've been looking around for a pashmina but didn't know the proper name for it, it is understandable that it was hard to find. Most web sites list pashminas with other scarves, even though they don't really qualify as scarves, according to many fashion gurus.

Be sure to check out our selection. We hope this is the last stop you'll have to make on your quest for that perfect pashmina!

Hi!

I can't believe the selection of scarves, pashminas and shawls! I'm so impressed with your prices too. I have a quick fashion question though: I know that shawls and pashminas are generally considered to be acceptable winter wear, but what about scarves - like nice silk or cashmere scarves (not the kind around snowmen)? Are those meant to be worn year-round?

Hi Amy,

Thanks for your email and for the compliments about our merchandise.

The simple answer to your question is: yes. Scarves made of high-end material, such as silk, are made to be worn in all seasons, though it is generally not advised that you attempt to wear a small silk scarf to keep you warm in the wintertime.

A nice silk scarf can be worn with any outfit to dress it up and add a simple sense of elegance. If you don't know already, take the time to learn how to tie a nice knot in the scarf - the know can make all the difference!

If you need to dress up a winter outfit quickly and easily, throw on a pashmina or shawl as your outerwear. You'll make a great impression walking into even the coldest situation! Look around our web site for some more ideas for what you can do with that silk scarf of yours.

Ah! My roommate washed my silks! Two silk scarves and a really nice silk pashmina was in the pile. What should I do?

Melinda

Hi Melinda,

Oh dear. The good news is that you have a roommate who wants to help you. The bad news is that he or she might have damaged your silk scarves and pashmina in the act.

Silk is composed of very fine and delicate threads wound tightly together. When it is placed into a washer, the chemicals and the harsh water tend to wear heavily on the material, breaking down the structural makeup. If the silk scarves and silk pashmina have already been through an entire load of laundry, then it is most likely too late to reverse the damage.

Don't worry though - the silks are still wearable and will still look elegant and chic. The major difference is that they will feel coarse to the touch and may not have that luster that the silks had.

Now that you're in the market for some new silk scarves and silk pashminas, check out the items on our web site. Chances are, you will find something that suits your needs - and our items are relatively inexpensive!
