Van Gogh

Some of the most basic bits of info everyone should know about this great creator.

Vincent van Gogh was born in Groot-Zondern (Netherlands) on the 29th of July. His fathers name was Theodorus van Gogh, and his mothers name was Anna Corelina. He learned French, English and German and started drawing in the boarding school of Tilburg. Between 1860 and 1880, when he finally decided to become an artist he had worked unsuccessfully as a clerk in a bookstore, an art salesman, and as a preacher. He went to Belgium to study art.

In 1886 he went to Paris to join his brother Théo, the manager of a gallery. In May of 1890, he went to live in Auvers-sur-Oiset Two months later he was dead, having shot himself in the stomach, not accepting any aid for all the time. During his brief career he had sold one painting.

My opinion is that most of his paintings use yellow in some cases even though it shouldn't really be there like in starry night. Also some pictures are very dark (potato eaters) and some are very colorful (sunflowers).

My favorite picture of Vincent van Gogh is Starry night because it is painted in the style where the brush only touches the paper for a short time and the brush is always dry. The picture also looks very alive.
