Baron Manfred von Richthofen (or the Red Baron) was the greatest German flying ace of World War 1. He shot down 84 allied planes, making him the greatest ace that ever lived! People called him the Red Baron because his plane was painted red, and he was a baron.
Nobody has ever yet beaten Manfred's record, and some people think nobody ever will. Manfred was a great pilot, and a great ace. When he was shot down, king Wilhiem III mourned, "he was worth more to me than 6,000 soldiers!" Manfred von Richthofen was shot down by Lieutenant Wilfred May on April 21, 1918.
