The Blind Mathematician

The life of Leonhard Euler will serve as an eye opener to us. By his clear recognition of his purpose in life, he showed to us that a physical disability is not a hindrance for a person to be productive.

Every person has an innate gift or talent. What we should do is to develop the God-given talent to us and not follow the easy path or what others would like us to be. Just like Leonhard, his father wanted him to be a clergyman. However, he switched from theology to the head cracking field of mathematics. He followed what his heart and head dictates and he proved he was right because he became known in the field he chose that even after his death, his works are still recognized as a great contribution in mathematics. It is not only Leonhard who succeeded in life by developing the God-given talent to them. To name a few, we have Sharon Cuneta, Manny Pacquiao and Efren Reyes, who do not even have diplomas but were more successful in life than those who have doctoral degrees.

Nothing can be more morbid than being totally blind. The loss of sight of Leonhard in 1771 did not lessen his output which included writings on optics, algebra, and the theory of the moon's motion.

By his clear recognition of his purpose in life, he showed to us that a physical disability is not a hindrance for a person to be productive.
