Richard M. Nixon

Richard Milhous Nixon (1913–1994), was the 37th President of the United States. He served in White House from 1969, and resigned in shame of Watergate Scandal in 1974. In his last years, Nixon gained praise as an elder statesman, died in 1994, ten months after his wife's death.

His Early Life:

On January 9th of 1913, Richard Milhous Nixon was born near the town of Yorba Linda in Los Angeles, California. Irish descent. 1934, he gained his BA degree Whittle College and in 1937, he got his Bachelor Degree of Laws in Duke University. From 1937 to 1942, he worked in Whittle as a lawyer. In June 1938, he joined the Republican Party. From 1942 to 1946, he served in the Navy, and was promoted to Lieutenant Commander during that time.

His Political Life:

In 1946, Richard Nixon was elected to the United States House as a Republican Representative and got his start in politics. In 1950, he was elected to the United States Senate. In 1952, he, as Eisenhower's running mate, was elected Vice President. In 1956, he was re-elected Vice President.

In the 1959 presidential election, by a narrow margin of votes, he was defeated by John F. Kennedy. After the failure of the election, Nixon lived in Los Angeles and later in New York, working as a solicitor.

In 1968, Nixon returned to the political arena. In the United States presidential election, he defeated Democrat Humphrey and Wallace (an independent candidate), and became the thirty-seventh President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974. In August 1974, he was forced to resign because of the "Watergate Affair".

His Death:

On April 18, 1994, in the evening, Nixon suffered a stroke at home in New Jersey, and was immediately rushed to Cornell Medical Center. On the 21st, in the afternoon, he went into a "coma". On 22nd, in New York Cornell Medical Center, he died, aged 81.

His Contribution:

Domestically, he improved the political systems, and reformed economic system, such as suspended the converting of the US dollar into gold. What's more, the Space Shuttle program was started under Nixon. Internationally, he normalized diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China--issued the famous "Shanghai Communique", and contributed to the peaceful pause in the Cold War with the Soviet Union. He signed the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.

His Marriage:

In June 1940 marriage with Ryan a high school teacher native to California. They have two daughters: Tricia, born in 1946, and Julie, born two years later.

His hobby: shooting and golf
