Sir Edmund Hillary was the last of the great adventurers and his service to this country will be honored and remembered. Everest and his mountaineering skills and in Nepal for his humanitarian work that bought education and schools to the Sherpa children and people living in the upper regions of the mountains.
Sir Edmund Hillary will long be immortalized for his commitment to Antarctica and the support work to the conservation and preservation of this large continent. His own compatriots honored his brilliant life and were very happy that he accepted a likeness of himself that placed upon the five-dollar note. He is the only New Zealander to have this happen. In 1996, a survey showed that the people of New Zealand had named Sir Edmund Hillary as the most revered New Zealander of all time. In this survey, he outshone rugby legends, former heads of state and many politicians. He has always been a very amicable and a much-loved person throughout the world. His life has influenced many New Zealanders and countless other people around the world.
