On the early morning of April the 20th 1898, Adolf Hitler was born. As his proud parents watched over their newly born son, squirming in his mothers arms. Little did they know, little did anybody know that little Adolf Hitler, the son of Klara and Alois, would go on to be one of the greatest tyrants the modern world has ever seen.
Little Adolf was born on the 20th of April, 1889, in the small Austrian town of Braunau near the German border. Klara was Alois's third wife. Alois and Klara had five children but sadly for them, only Adolf and Paula, his younger sister, survived to be adults.
In Adolf's early years, his father in particular was insistent on him to do well in life. Alois also had another son whom he was greatly disappointed in because he had been jailed for theft. In light of this, Adolf was beaten without mercy by his father if he ever disobeyed his will.
Hitler excelled very well academically in primary school and all that knew him expected he would have a bright future as some sort of successful businessman or civil servant. However, secondary school was a much greater challenge for Adolf. Because of this, his immediate reaction if he was not on top of this class, for some reason, was to stop trying. His father was furious at Adolf's educational downhill streak as he wanted Adolf to join the Austrian Civil Service just as he had done.
Even with the never ending pleas of his parents to try harder at school, Hitler was adamant in his decision and would not try any harder if he didn't automatically rise to the top of the class. The only thing Hitler seemed to actually like about school was interacting with his history teacher, Leopold Potsch. Like many people who lived in the upper areas of Austria, Potsch was a fierce German nationalist. He told his students of the many German victories under the command of Otto Von Bismarck who was the first ever chancellor of the illustrious German empire. Von Bismarck was a hero to Hitler for all his years until death, he imagined, that with assistance, he could turn Germany into a glorious nation.
The only other interest of the young Hitler at school was art. It was no surprise that his father was infuriated when Adolf told him he was not going to join the Austrian Civil Service, but become an artist. Hitler and his father barely spoke and it was only in 1903 when Alois died that Hitler could enjoy his art openly.
Hitler was 13 when his father died and his death had no impact on Adolf whatsoever. As Klara Hitler was a kind woman she usually seemed to spoil her son. When Adolf was just 15, he did so badly on his exams that he was told he had to repeat the whole years work if he wanted any option of moving up to the next level. Adolf asked his mother if he could leave school and it was no surprise to him or to anybody that she agreed. That night, Adolf celebrated by getting drunk at his local pub. This however was not an enjoyable experience for him and he vowed never to do it again.
When Adolf turned 18, he gained his inheritance from his fathers will and with that money, he moved to Vienna to study art. His hopes to become an artist were short lived when the Vienna school of art rejected his application. He also applied for the Vienna academy of sculpturing but was again rejected.
In 1907, Klara Hitler died of Cancer. Adolf was deeply troubled by her death and carried an image of her wherever he went. It was said by some of his senior members of the SS and Nazi officials that he clutched it to his heart at his time of suicide. As the oldest child, Adolf now received his father's civil service pension. This was an extreme amount of money and Hitler could afford to be unemployed and still pay bills and taxes without difficulty.
The outbreak of the First World War brought new opportunities to Hitler and he signed up for the army immediately. Hitler received 5 medals during his service, including the iron cross, an award for great bravery.
In 1918, Hitler was blinded by chlorine gas and sent to hospital. As his sight recovered slowly, Germany surrendered to the allied forces. Adolf took this very badly and spent some days sobbing uncontrollably on his bed. Once again, all of Hitler's effort had not succeeded.
After the war, Hitler was stationed in Munich and in 1919, when the German army liberated it from the rule of the Bavarian Socialist Republic; Hitler was arrested and accused of being a socialist. Adolf managed not to be executed as he convinced the court that he was and opposer of the socialist regime.
The army used Hitler as a spy after the liberation of Munich. He was in particular sent to investigate the German Workers Party (or GWP)
