Duane Hanson was born in 1928 in Minnesota. Hanson then graduated the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1951. In 1953, he moved to Germany and worked as an art teacher until 1960. He then moved back to America and became an art professor at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.
His career started to blossom in 1969. Many of his sculpture were shown in exhibitions and he a retrospective of his sculptures from 1976-1978. Duane Hanson was best known for the super realism in his sculptures. Super realism is a style of painting and sculpture, which was extremely popular in the 1960's, which focuses on every detail to make the work look more lifelike.
Hanson was known for dressing his sculptures in clothes, and most of his works focused on the depressing and boring aspects of everyday American life.
