Daddy Yankee was born Ramón (Raymond) Ayala on February 3rd, 1977. He was born in Puerto Rico. His family was very musical and he sang from an early age. He was mostly interested in reggaeton music.
As he grew up, he became interested in Spanish music. The name Daddy Yankee can be translated to Big Daddy in English. He made his first album when he was 18 years old. His album El Cangri.com was the album that helped Daddy Yankee become popular outside Puerto Rico. He made many other albums after this, but his album Barrio Fino was one of the biggest hits that he made.
In this album, his song “Gasolina” became very popular and promoted his album. This made him very famous and he made many more songs in Spanish and English. He lend his music to other companies (to advertise) including footwear companies and soft drink companies. Some of these companies include Reebok, Pepsi, and automobile company called Citroen, and the ABC radio network.
The music of Daddy Yankee's that I chose was the song Gasolina from his album Barrio Fino. It sold over a million copies in the U.S. and was very popular amongst Latin songs until late 2005. It is a song sung in Spanish (there is no English included). A remix of this song has a few English words. It is a modern piece of music.
Daddy Yankee mostly wrote reggaeton songs but he also wrote some hip-hop songs. He wrote many songs in both English and Spanish. Some of his famous pieces of music are “Gasolina”, “Rompe”, and “Impacto”.
I think that Daddy Yankee made many great songs and worked very hard. He had to make his way out of Puerto Rico to become famous in the U.S., and that must have been very hard for him to do. He really went with his passion to sing and kept with his talents. He is a very unique musician in that he sings both English and Spanish songs, some songs with both languages.
He didn't have that many obstacles to overcome, but he still took every chance he could to become famous.
Because of this, I believe that daddy Yankee is one of the best modern musicians.
