Amy tan is greatly influenced by her mother when she is writing her children's books. Her first book that was published consisted of perfect English and her mother's bad or broken English. When her mother read the book for the first time, she said that it was easy to read. In addition to writing with her mother's English Tan wrote about her mother. Tan wanted to use all the English she knew new in her writing, but she also wanted to find something out about her mother through her writing. She wanted to capture what language tests never could, her mother's intent, passion, imagery of speech, and her nature of thought.
As well as her mother influencing the way she writes her children's books, her mother influenced her life growing up as well. Amy Tan grew up with her mother's broken English which impact in her life very much. She spoke to her mother differently using her mother's broken English while she spoke to other people with perfect English. Many times her mother needed Amy to make phone calls for her to the government because no one would take her mother seriously with her broken English. They would take Amy seriously though with her perfect English. Hence, Amy Tan's mother is a great influence on Amy because she has influences the way she writes her books and she also influences her life.
The many cultures Amy tan has grown up in affects her life and her writing. For example, growing up in her Asian culture with her mother, she has learned her mother's broken English. She uses this English to write her children's books. As well as learning her mother's broken English from her Asian culture she also enjoys disapproving assumptions about her and her Asian culture. Her first boss told her that writing was her worst skill and that she should go into account management. Amy Tan realized that he said this because of her Asian a background and culture.
This only made Amy more persistent in her writing career. In addition to her Asian background influencing her in her writing and her life her American background influences her as well. Growing up in America Amy has learned many different Englishes that she uses. This has made her a better person because she has continued her writing career using these Englishes. Also many people take her seriously unlike her mother who uses broken English. Tan's cultures that she has grown up with have made her a better person and has influenced her writing and her life.
