Is TV boring you? Are you tired of the soaps, reality shows, etc? Try a hobby. If you never had a hobby, this is the time to get going.
What do you like to do? This is an important factor in selecting a hobby that you really want to do, and will keep doing. There are classes around where you can learn something different, if you just research them.
Like to read? Share your reading expertise with a group, such as a book club. Check with the local library and see if there is one in existence. If not, find out how to start one. The book club will encourage you to finish a book at a set time. It will allow you to get out of the house for a meeting, and make new friends, other than the TV.
If you like to share your reading knowledge with others, get with the Literary Council in your local area, and find out how you can teach someone to read. No experience is necessary and the Council will train you.
Crochet, needlework, or knitting are hobbies that men and women both enjoy. You can find a store that sells yarn, thread, and other items and classes are probably available for a nominal fee. Many organizations have a need for knitted hats and other items for cancer patients. The yarn store will know where they are needed.
Gardening is a wonderful hobby. It's Winter and there are no flowers blooming. This is a fine time to take a class on gardening or read some books on how to for Spring. There are always bulbs that can be planted in the Fall, so check with your plant nursery to learn about Fall/Winter gardening in your area.
Pottery classes are available to those who want to learn the craft. Local community colleges offer classes for the beginner and even those who have some knowledge.
Art classes are available, also. Have you always wanted to draw or paint? Make this Winter the time to do just that. Buy some campus or even drawing paper and try your hand.
Do you like to work on the computer, but just are not up to speed with the machine yet. You can find adult classes to teach you not to fear the machine. Emailing others might be the answer to a respite from the TV. There are numerous sites that offer email pals for friendship only.
Do you like to keep track of the family history? Get involved in shaking the family tree, and finding out the ins and outs of your own family. Share it with relatives, who might not have the desire to do the research work.
Scrapbooking is a great family hobby. It does not have to be expensive but it is something that could be worked on by the entire family.
When was the last time you put a jigsaw puzzle together? This intriguing past time has changed throughout the years. The number of pieces has increased and so has the selection. Find a suitable place where the puzzle cannot be disturbed while you are working on it. After it is finished, use some of the products on the market that keep it together. Frame it and enjoy.
