Many people believe that amusement parks are good fun and a safe way to get an adrenaline rush. Although I do myself find amusement park rides an exciting way to get an adrenaline rush it is not worth the risk. Most amusement parks are an unsafe environment for yourself and your family.
Rides at many amusement parks are not designed safely. Sizzlers which are a type of ride fount in amusement parks have been involved in at least five deaths since 1997. That ride is exceptionally bad but I myself have been to many amusement parks and many of the rides I have been on were not safe. There is an amusement park on wheels that comes to Victoria every year called the Oak Bay Tea Party which has a ride called the zipper. On that ride I nearly fell out from underneath the bar that was supposed to be holding me in while I was upside down. Another ride I have been on at the Calgary Stampede had its seat belt come loose so I had to hold on to the strap to keep me and my friend in while we were upside down or we could have been killed falling from the ride.. An even more well-known amusement park known as The Six Flags had a major problem with one of their rides. A 13 year old girl had her legs severed by a cable that had snapped and wound around her legs. Only her right leg was able to be re-attached her left leg was too damaged to be surgically re-attached. This happened on a thrill ride that draws the rider up then plunges at over 50Mph. These are only a few of the casualties which U.S. federal authorities estimate at an average of 1000 injuries and four deaths a year by amusement park rides.
Not only are many rides unsafe but the fact is many amusement parks dong have workers whose full time job is to maintain the rides. Even more disturbing is that most injuries and deaths that are “ride” related could have if the ride operators paid more attention to their job.
I believe that owing to the accidents rides should be supervised much more strictly and maintenance much more effectively controlled. In this way we might avoid more deaths and injuries at amusement parks around the world.
