We often fail to notice the beauty of nature. Our hectic society and demands of everyday life keep us so busy that we forget there's a world beyond the office, the home, the grocery store, etc. But there is a world that calls to us from the very roots of our being. When was the last time you connected with nature?
The stress of daily living wears us down on more levels than we may be willing to admit. Our bodies may be well fed but our spirits are in desperate need of nurturing. One of the best ways to feed and lift our spirits is to reconnect with nature. You may think that just being outdoors is communing with nature but merely walking the dog or going outside to retrieve your newspaper is a far cry from getting in touch with nature. You are still in a state of doing rather than being.
In order to reconnect with nature you have to just be. Some of you may understand the meaning of such a statement perfectly while others may be a bit confused. Being outdoors doesn't constitute connecting with nature. People have forgotten respect for nature and all of life's creatures. We need to look deep within ourselves and remember our bond with nature. We, along with the plants and animals are all the children of nature. If you've ever gone hiking you've felt a sense of adventure. If you ski you are aware of the exhilaration. Spend time in a sailboat on a beautiful blue lake; take a walk through the forest or stroll through a country field and feel the peace that washes over you and penetrates your whole being. Nature has the power to revitalize your spirit.
Sit under a tree or lie back and feel the grass beneath your body. Take a walk on the beach and feel the sand beneath your bare feet. Really see the beauty of the falling snow as you watch its descent from the sky. We take all the aspects of nature for granted without actually seeing the miracle and magic in all things. The rocks hold secrets of ages within their stony hearts. The trees are the stoic guardians that stand as silent sentries. Each animal is as unique as each person. The beautiful, intricate patterns on the wings of each butterfly is another amazing work of art. Even the creatures we consider insignificant such as the lowly ant teach us lessons of patience, determination and teamwork. Perhaps we should pay more attention to these creatures since many of us have not learned those valuable lessons well.
Each part of nature is a gift that we've been given. A gift should be appreciated. We've been given a multitude of gifts so reconnect with nature and take the time to truly appreciate the natural gifts of creation.
