I love mushrooms, but the pitfalls of harvesting wild varities has many dangers. Whenever I'm out and about in the great outdoors of our Sunshine State and in particular in the Cairns area, I'm always on the look out for some thing I have not seen before. I came across one in the Behana Creek area a few weeks ago and took a speciemen home to see if it had already been identified. Unfortunately, I forgot to take my camera with me. After doing some intensive searches, I came up empty handed.

There are quite a few websites on the subject and the best one is the Queensland Government website.

Australian Prescriber - Deathcap Mushroom. This makes very interesting reading.

There is much to be said about mushrooms, and whether you love 'em or hate them it is astounding how many different species are out there. Well worth the time and effort to find out which are safe and which are not especially if you have inquisitive kids.
