Camping: a Look at Safety Items

You’ve waited months to go camping with loved ones. Make sure they are safe. Be prepared.

Before setting off into the wilderness, you should include safety items in with your camping equipment. Ensure that your family is protected by having the necessary safety supplies on hand.

Planning ahead of time will help you to select suitable safety kits and necessary safety items.

Safety Planning

  • What terrain will you be driving over?
  • Will you be walking or hiking on trails?
  • Is your campsite remote or close to amenities?
  • Could insects be troublesome?
  • Have you planned for differing weather conditions?
  • Will you be camped near water?

Safety Supplies

Trail Kits

Trail kits are designed for differing scenarios. Trail safety kits range from simple foot kits to comprehensive kits, designed for shorter hikes or longer wilderness treks.

First-aid Kits

First-aid kits contain bandages, sterile pads, gauze, tweezers and scissors-personal safety products that are good to have on hand.

Survival Kits

Survival kits include an assortment of goods, covering a broader spectrum. Emergency survival kits include additional safety items: waterproof matches, signal whistles, illumisticks, water tablets, as well as blankets and ponchos.

Additional Safety Supplies

Skin Care

  • Insect repellant
  • Burn lotion

Transportation

  • Extra batteries or fuel
  • Flashlights and headlamps
  • A charged cell phone

Temperature

  • Fans
  • Heaters
  • Water bottles

Miscellaneous

  • A rope and a shovel
  • Life jackets (if you'll be near water, water safety products are a must)

All-In-One Survival Tool

An all-in-one survival tool is a handy safety product that includes a compass, a magnifying glass, a bottle opener, a can opener, and a small blade with a saw; a socket wrench and assorted screwdrivers.

Choose necessary safety items and pack in a safety kit that fits your needs. Thus protected, you can set off for an enjoyable holiday.

Safety is so important. A cousin of mine and a friend recently drowned because they weren't wearing life jackets when their boat overturned.

Hi Moses,

I'm so sorry to hear that. I heard a saying that has always stuck with me: life is what happens when you are too busy to notice.

It's so true, we forget how vulnerable we all are and how just minutes, sometimes, can change our life forever.
