So, the weather is getting nice and everyone stars thinking about going on holiday, taking some time off from work and taking it easy for a week or two. So, if the weather is nice, why go abroad? Why not stay where the weather is good and go on a camping holiday.
Just the word camping or tent is enough to put some people off, but you really shouldn't knock it until you've tried it. It's not all spiders and creepy crawlies- no more than you would see if you sat in your back garden. If you zip you your tent, then there's no reason why you should have anything in your tent!
Camping is not like it used to be, it can be as basic or as luxurious as you like (within reason - it's still camping at the end of the day!) Gone are the days of non existent shower blocks and muddy campsites with no electric or amenities. These days, most sites are well equipped with electric hook ups, water taps, shower blocks and a sink and draining area for washing pots and pans. There are shops and cafes on some sites too, which is handy if you don't fancy doing any cooking. Swimming pools and amusement arcades are pretty common to, and some have amenities such as table tennis or tennis courts.
If you want some luxury, the range of tents on the market now is fantastic, some with many rooms inside and they come in all shapes and sizes, small and compact, or large enough to walk around in comfort. If you don't want the hassle of the time spent to put up a tent, then why not opt for the pop up versions which more or less put themselves up and only takes a couple of minutes to peg in.
If tents aren't your thing, then camper vans are great. Again, they can be basic or luxurious. Some camper vans have cookers, a fridge, sink and even a toilet in them, as well as seating and table areas for eating at, and of course, a proper bed.
If you like your comforts, there are some comfortable blow up mattresses on the market. Some are nearly as tall as a bed, and just as comfortable. The portable stoves and cooking equipment have come a long way too, and it is easy enough to cook a decent meal whilst camping - or you can always eat out!
The beauty of camping is, once you have your equipment you can use it year after year at no extra cost. It is a cheap way of taking a holiday and seeing some of the beautiful countryside. There's no restrictions on you regarding what time you get up for breakfast, or what time you have dinner, you don't to check out of your tent so it can be cleaned and you don't have the hustle and bustle of a hotel.
If you go properly equipped and choose a well rated campsite (it's usually better to book in advance if you have specific requirements), you can enjoy a wonderful relaxing holiday - one that all the family can enjoy.
