Birch Sap

Shows you how to collect birch sap and what it is.

In Spring you can cut into any type of birch tree and out comes its sap. This sap which tastes similar to water is refreshing and can be extracted from the birch trees by drilling into it (although this might kill the tree unless you block up the hole afterwards) by drilling into it about two inches into the tree. Or you can simply cut it with a blade such as a penknife. You can collect this liquid and just drink it how it is or you could make it into birch sap syrup with both being equally good.
