Most people like to cycle, but some of them do not know how to be safe on the road. Here are some points on how to ensure safety on the road while cycling.

Reflectors

  • A bicycle must have a rear reflector
  • Each pedal must have yellow reflectors on the forward and rearward facing surfaces
  • It is also advisable to attach reflective straps on the lower parts of the cyclist's legs

Brakes

  • Brakes must always be in good working condition
  • A bicycle should have brakes on the front and back wheels, with the exception of bicycle made before 1948 which only need good brakes on the back wheel

Lights

When riding in a dark, a bicycle should have the following features:

  • A red rear light that can be seen at night from a distance of 100 meters
  • A steady forward facing white light that can be seen at night from a distance of 100 meters

Helmets

  • Brightly colored helmets make cyclists more easily seen by other road users.
  • Helmets also reduce the risk of skull fracture and protect the head from scrapes and cuts
