Salvia Divinorum: The Dangerous Teen Trend

Salvia divinorum is the new drug of choice among teens these days. Although the effects lasting only minutes, salvia has hallucinogenic effects.

So why would teens rather have a short high compared to that of alcohol or marijuana? It is legal as alcohol, and with the affects lasting minutes, the chances of getting caught are minimal. There is no smell lingering on the breath like alcohol, and the buzzed feeling doesn't take long to get rid of.

You may ask yourself, where teens are getting these legal drugs? Smoke shops, often called Head Shops sell the stuff. These Head Shops have been in business for years selling drug paraphenellia under the pretense that these are all tobacco pipes. Although you do have to be 18 to enter or purchase these things, that doesn't stop others from purchasing these things for minors. There are also a variety of internet shops that you can make an online purchase of several legal drugs.

Salvia could be used a number of ways, including ingesting. The main way of using salvia is smoking. There are many pipes available used to smoke salvia. Most people use water pipes. This is because the smoke is very hot and the water actually cools

the smoke, making it easier to inhale.

If you suspect your teens are using salvia, these are what some of the pipes used looks like:

Other signs to look for are, uncontrollable laughter, mood change, paranoia, sweating, or even depression.

If you think your teen may be smoking salvia, it is best to try to get them to stop. There is not a lot about long term effects of salvia, but some states have their own laws trying to control this substance. If there were no negative consequences, there would be no need to try to make salvia illegal.

haha. "if there were no negative consequences, there would be no need to try to make salvia illegal." Are you a robot?

good stuff, though. did you study journalism at harvard?

you should know at least SOMETHING about the subject of your article before trying to affect people's opinions.

Well, actually I was trying to inform people, not change their opinions. To be honest, although the people on you tube record themselves doing it and they look totally stupid and it is very boring to watch, I would like to try it. That is just it though, try it. With the chance of becoming depressed or suicidal it doesn't seem like a good idea to make it a habit. And YOU and I both know that I didn't study journalism at harvard. How about you, did you take editorial studies at harvard? No, that is why we don't have high paying jobs in the writing industry, however, that doesn't stop me from practicing on a site that I can make a small income and eventually build to make a decent amount of extra spending money.
