Who is it for?
Any number of young children.
What do I need?
- Enough paper for each child to have plenty!
- Crayons, felt tips, chalks or other drawing medium.
- 1 binder (the sort that slides along the edge of a batch of paper to create a book.
- 2 pieces of card (one for the front of the book and one for the back).
What do I do?
Tell the children that they are going to make a Special Book. Here are some good reasons for making Special Books:
- a parent is sick and would be cheered up with a Get Well Book
- a child who has not been to nursery for a while, a Miss You Book may encourage him or her to come back
- it is someone's birthday and a Birthday Book is much more fun than a card
Put the paper and crayons (and/or other drawing medium) on a flat surface within easy reach of each child and let me them create pictures.
Support the children by encouraging them to share colours, and talk about their work to each other.
When time, paper or concentration have run out:
- gather all of the pictures together
- sandwich them between the 2 pieces of coloured card
- slide on the binder
- decorate the cover
You can have a stock of covers that the children made in a previous sticky activity to avoid any complications about who should decorate the cover.
