Store bought doll houses can be very expensive. You can, however, build one yourself, or with your favorite little girl, that will be perfect for pretend play. The following simple doll house building plans will get your daughter playing happily in a day or two.
Materials Needed
To build the doll house, you simply need some shoe boxes or other rectangular boxes, paint, glue, paper, and felt fabric. You will also want scissors, paintbrushes, and other tools.
Building the Doll house
You can build this simple doll house very quickly. You start by laying out the boxes you have gathered in a pleasing configuration. Each box will be one room in the doll house.
After you lay out the doll house rooms, you will want to attach them firmly with glue. You can paint the inside or outside of the boxes before or after you glue. After they are glued, you will want to paint the whole outside of the doll house. You can also cover it with paper or fake siding. To get really realistic, create an angled doll house roof with a bent piece of cardboard.
You can also decorate the walls and floors of the room with wallpaper scraps, fancy scrap booking paper, or fabric. The felt fabric makes nice rugs for your rooms.
Creating Furniture
Every doll house needs furniture! To create simple doll house furniture, all you need to do is use smaller cardboard boxes or blocks of styrofoam. You can paint these of cover them in paper or fabric.
A table can be made easily with the end of a milk carton covered with wood grain contact paper. A doll house couch can be made from styrofoam blocks covered with felt.
