How to Make a Beach-Themed Candle Holder

Would you like to bring the beauty of a special beach trip into your home? Here's how to make a candle holder with a beach theme.

While you may not be able to spend all your time enjoying the sand and surf, there are subtle ways you can bring the beauty of the beach into your home. One way is to create a candle holder that will remind you of the warm sand and the majestic sounds of the waves as they crash upon the shore. This project is so easy to complete, you can make several in less than an hour. Here's how to make a candle holder with a beach theme:

Supplies

  • A clear glass container to house your candle
  • Sand
  • Seashells collected from the beach
  • Candle
  • Two part epoxy glue that sets in five minutes

Instructions

  1. Gather Your Supplies

You'll need to select a clear glass container that's large enough to accommodate your chosen candle with about an inch of extra space from the surface of the candle to the side of the container. You'll be filling the container with sand and you want the sand to show through the glass. A small, clear glass flowerpot works well for this purpose. Next, you'll need to choose a candle. A candle in a pale neutral shade such as cream, off-white or beige will look best if you're using sand in its natural shade. Seashells and sand can be collected right off of the beach to add even more natural appeal to this project.
  2. Apply Seashells to the Container

Using two part epoxy glue, apply seashells to the outside surface of the glass in a pleasing arrangement. You can cluster them in pretty arrangements or space them symmetrically around the surface of the glass. Have your design planned ahead of time since you'll need to work quickly before the epoxy sets. You can also use a hot glue gun in place of the epoxy glue, but hot glue tends to be brittle on smooth surfaces and the shells could pop off at a later time.
  3. Add Your Candle

Once the glue is completely dry, place your chosen candle into the jar. While holding it in place, carefully fill the glass container with sand to anchor the candle in place. Step back and admire your work. Imagine how beautiful the candle will look when it's lit!

The beauty of making a candle holder with a beach theme is you'll be reminded of the mysterious beauty of the sand and surf each time you light the candle. They also make a special gift especially if you use sand and shells collected from a beach trip. Enjoy your new candle holder!
