Great Uses for Used Plastic Bottles

Different family uses for plastic bottles. a very recyclable item.

GAMES

Turn your old plastic bottles into games for your kids. Here are few ideas that will keep your family entertained for hours

Bowling:

Set up ten bottles in the yard and knock them down you can use ether a ball or another bottle, experiment-using bottles with and with or without water.

Ring Toss:

Just like at the fair set up the bottles. You can get rings from PVC piping buy cutting the diagonally, have fun.

Yard toss:

Place your hula-hoop in the yard as a target, and see who can toss a bottle closest to the center.

Bottle horseshoes:

The same as the above only you need to drive some stakes in the yard, like horseshoes to serve as a target. The landed bottle needs to be ether touching the stake or close as a bottle length to score. Touching is two points. Close, as the length of a bottle is one point.

Kick the can:

Simply use a bottle as a ball, if the bottle has a liquid in it. It will be more interesting when being kicked. The kids will have a great time kicking it around it is so unpredictable it is a lot of fun

Steal the bottle:

Blind fold one the children and place the bottle in front of him, while he sits. Have another child try to quietly sneak up and steal the bottle from in front of him. If the one guarding the bottle touches the thief before me makes off with the bottle, the two must trade places.

CRAFTS

Bird Feeders:

Bird feeders are made by simply putting a dowel rod near the bottom of the bottle and cutting a line cross ways approximately where the bird will be sitting and pushing that portion of the bottle inward. When you fill up the bottle with birdfeed, it will come out only as the birds feed. Place a line through a small hole in the cap tie a small bolt or stick in the lid so that the string will not come out. Then screw back the cap. In addition, hang up the bottle using the line.

King and Queen Crowns:

If you cut the shape of a crown on most two-liter bottles and then cut the backside of the bottle so that it will open up. It will then fit most youngsters. They will have fun decorating them too.

Bead / Pencils Holders:

Plastic bottles are great for holding many different items such as Beads, Pencils & Pens, Small Game pieces, Rice, Change.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

Rattles:

Put some rice or mustard seed in the bottle decorate the bottle and there you go. If you want to be a little more elaborate, you can even attach a broom handle to the end to make it more fun for kids.

Rattles with ridges:

Cut lines diagonally across the sides of a two liter bottle and put some Rice or mustard seed in the bottle and using a stick rub back and forth over the line.

SCIENCE PROJECTS

Sub Marines:

You local library will have detailed instructions for turning two liter bottle into a submarine search under school projects.

Tornado in a bottle:

To make a tornado in a bottle take two caps. Connect them together and remove as much plastic from between them as possible. Connect them using a strong waterproof adhesive. Now put some water in one bottle and screw both bottles together using the one cap. Vigorously shake the bottles in a circular motion and turn it so that the water if on the top. A tornado will form in the Water. It looks very cool.

MISC. USES

Squirt bottles:

If you are grilling and cannot find the squirt gun to put out the flame, use the plastic bottle. Just put a hole in the top and use it to put out flames.

Rice Holders, Bean holders:

Anything that you would normally keep in a bag, will most likely keep better, in a clean plastic bottle, because it is better protected from insects and spoilage.

Decorate and use for flower holders:

You Kids may enjoy using old plastic bottles as flower holders. Especially if you allow them to decorate them on their own.
