Artwork a Child Can Create

With the children soon to be off for Christmas break, here is an inexpensive activity and a way they can help decorate for Christmas.

If you are looking for an artistic way to add a personal touch to gifts this year, this might be right up your alley, and it will cost you next to nothing.

What you need:

  • A pair of sharp scissors.
  • A piece of paper, the color of your choice, approximately 8 ½” by 10”
  • A pencil

What to do:

  • Take your paper and fold it in half the long way
  • Take your pencil and write your name or the name of your choice in large bold letters across the paper being sure to touch close to the fold. See picture above.
  • Note that this paper is folded in half, and the name is written on the fold.
  • If you would like you can draw around the letters increasing the width to approximately ¾ inch thick. It is important to increase the width of the letters to make the drawing easier to cut out. You can increase the width while cutting, if it is simpler for you. You are going to cut both thicknesses of paper simultaneously being certain to not separate the papers. When this paper is opened it will create a mirror image of your name.
  • Names can be cut out of notebook or construction paper, aluminum foil or gift wrap for variety. It is difficult to cut out of card stock or poster board because of the loops in the name, which need the interior removed. You can also get creative and sprinkle with glitter.

This is a great way to get the children involved in an artistic activity and enjoy time together with very little expense. The children will want to make their own name to hang on their walls. Enjoy.
