Do you feel like it takes your entire pay check to fill up your tank to get you to work? Fear that you may need to take out a loan just to afford your weekly travel? Isn't it a sign of the times when you have to plan your entire day's outing so you don't have to take the car out more than once? Sad but true. Times are tight in this great country of ours and we all need a little bit of economic help. Perhaps a few tips to help ease your gas intake may help your wallet feel a little less light.
Ride a Bike
For destinations that are near, have you considered walking or riding a bike? Not only will modes of transportation such as these help your bank account, but they will also help you shed some of those pounds you may be packing. Did you know our country boasts the most overweight citizens? Help yourself out in more ways than one! Open The Trunk
While we're on the topic of weight, let's talk about what's in your trunk; I mean of your car. The less weight you have in your car, the less drag; hence, less fuel consumption. So, go ahead and get rid of all that junk in your trunk! Carpool It
I know how much you all love kicking back and blasting those tunes, flying solo on your way to work. It may be inconvenient and hinder upon your vocal styling; but have you considered carpooling? This will not only ease the strain on your wallet, but on the wallet's of those in the pool as well. When you're planning for your carpool, just ensure that your fellow passengers won't mind singing back up to your sweet Bon Jovi impression. Slow Down
I know there isn't a fire, so what's the hurry? It's been estimated that traveling at speeds of 60 MPH or less uses less fuel. No, you aren't reading it wrong, I said 60 MPH. Hey, it's up to you; be in a hurry to get no where fast or save a few bucks to put in to that college fund for your first born. Cruising
With this tip, you can surly sit back and relax while your cruise control handles your speed. If you're in a steady stream of traffic (i.e. not stop and go),why not reach your desired speed of 60 MPH or less, of course, and let that cruise control maintain your speed? Every time you accelerate you put in a dent in your gas tank. Being that it is difficult for the human foot to maintain a consistent speed, (ever notice that one second you are going 55 and the next 57?) your cars computer can actually help in this area. An added bonus, your foot doesn't have to get that drivers cramp as often! Yes!
So, there you have it; some easy ways to help conserve gas, keep your wallet fatter, and maybe get you a little bit thinner ;)
