While we all sit around and wait for that vehicle that runs off of hydrogen, corn or your kitchen scraps, we are stuck with what we have and that is a petroleum based vehicle. In other words we have vehicles that run on gas.
If you are like me and know the very basics about cars then chances are you aren't overhauling your engine in the next couple of days to run off of the moonshine your neighbor is cooking in their yard behind the shed.
So for now we all can make little changes to help with the efficiency of gas in our vehicles and save us some money in the process.
For starters how about being a better driver. It doesn't matter who you vote for when it comes to the presidential election of the country, by simply driving better will help with your fuel efficiency. Aggressive driving such as fast accelerating from a stop position, constant breaking and speeding all wastes gas. According to the federal government this type of driving, “can lower your gas mileage by 33 percent”.
Have some extra things in your trunk or in the back of your SUV? Then get rid of them if they aren't needed. Removing excess and unnecessary weight from your vehicle (and no mother in laws do not count) will help increase your gas mileage by 2% according to the federal government.
I have a vehicle that is a few years old but am fortunate that it has cruise control. Why? Because studies have shown that driving at a constant rate of speed will help save on gas. If you do a lot of highway driving get to know your cruise control if you haven't already. If you car does not have cruise control do your best to maintain the same speed throughout if possible and stay under the speed limit.
So there are three ways you can help yourself out. Sure it won't get 100 miles per gallon, or eliminate the need to gas, but it will at least do a little to ease some of the pain.
