As the energy source started depleting, man started inventing new forms of energy and fuels for his use. These alternative sources of energy was formed through variety of combination of different fossil fuels and vegetable oil extracts. These may also be obtained from bio degradable wastes. These sources of fuels may not be that efficient and sufficient all alone by themselves. They need to be processed with various other components. In some cases they may have to be mixed up with different forms of fuels to obtain an alternative source.
Another reason for inventing flexible fuel may be because of increasing environmental pollution due to the existing fuels. Many measures have been taken for this and experiments have been conducted in order to reduce this green house effect. Hence , this flexible fuel technology has to vast extent overcome this defect.
Not every time will all these fuels act efficiently as a standalone fuel. Hence, the automobile engineers acme up with various measures to overcome this. For example, the engines were built up with more than one fuel tank. Each fuel tank is filled with a different fuel say, diesel and vegetable oil such as that of corn. When you start up the engine, initially, the diesel flows into the carburetor to start the vehicle, then when it picks up it uses vegetable oil.
In many set ups there may be a system that both these fuels flow first to the carburetor and mix up, then they form the combined hybrid fuel, which is more efficient as well as less carbon emitting source of fuel.
