Not bad, but when you consider that July 2007 Bug Jam had around 40,000 people attending you can see how much it has grown and is now thought of as one of the top VW events in the UK, if not the world, as many people come from all over the world to attend this 3 day event, camping onsite in tents or camper vans.
Santa Pod in Bedfordshire is the home of Bug Jam with the little village of Podington just down the road gets swamped with Beetles and Camper vans driving to and from the event for the 3 days a year every July.
The gates usually open on Friday morning but you have to get there early as there is usually a queue for the rest of the day just to get in. Pass out tickets are issued so you can come and go as you please for the whole weekend, and stock up with food and beer from the local towns.
You can watch the drag racing, take part in RWYB (Run what you brung) which gives you a chance to take your own car up the drag strip and race against another driver, chill out in the beer tents or browse the many stalls selling anything from VW car parts, jewellery, gifts, clothes and loads of other stuff. There is a show and shine event on Sunday which gives you a chance to look at some of the top VWs in the country.
The night time has such a great atmosphere, with a fun fair, and various music tents usually with different styles of music such as the legendary Carwash 70s disco tent, club and dance music as well as up and coming live bands.
It is a great chance to have a fun weekend and get to mix with loads of people who all share a passion for air cooled Volkswagens.
